When we recently faced an unexpected plumbing issue in the bathroom next to our daughter's room, I initially felt the usual dread that comes with home repairs. The plumbers had to cut into her wall, leaving us with an unsightly patch of drywall that needed to be addressed. But instead of just fixing the drywall, I saw an opportunity to breathe new life into her room.

I decided to embrace the chance to give her nursery a fresh aesthetic, one that combines the charm of the past with a touch of modern elegance—something I'm calling "Granny Floral." While it might sound like an unusual theme for a nursery, it perfectly captures the grand millennial chic style that I love. It's a blend of vintage florals and timeless design with a contemporary twist. Not to mention, it is a nod to both of my grandmothers. Now every time I pass her open door, I am flooded with memories of the both of them.

Turning a Problem into a Project
The first step in this transformation was to add beadboard paneling around the room. It’s amazing how something as simple as beadboard can instantly add texture and character to a space. My husband and dad took on the task of measuring and putting up the beadboard, ensuring everything was perfectly aligned.
Once the beadboard was in place, it was my turn to get to work. I carefully caulked every seam and corner to create a seamless look. Then came the fun part—painting. I chose Benjamin Moore's Rosemary Spring for the beadboard, a soft, soothing green that adds warmth and a touch of nature to the room. For the walls above the beadboard, we already had Sherwin Williams Alabaster, a creamy white that provides a fresh, clean contrast to the green.

With the beadboard installed and the walls freshly painted, the room truly began to take on its new identity. The combination creates a serene environment that’s both nurturing and stylish.
To complete the granny floral theme, I added a few special touches. A vintage-inspired floral print in a gold frame now hangs above a soft, neutral lamp, tying together the old-world charm and the modern design. The overall effect is a room that feels cozy, welcoming, and filled with character. I also dusted off the precious moments heirlooms that my grandmother had passed down to me.
This remodel has turned our daughter’s nursery into a space that can grow with her. The granny floral theme, with its blend of traditional and contemporary elements, isn’t just for babies—it’s a style that can adapt as she grows older. Whether it becomes a toddler’s retreat or a young girl’s dream room, the foundation is now set for a space that will evolve with her.
This project was a reminder that sometimes unexpected challenges can lead to creative opportunities. What started as a plumbing mishap turned into a chance to create something beautiful. I’m thrilled with how the room turned out, and I hope it inspires others to see the potential in their own homes, even when things don’t go as planned.

I’d love to hear your thoughts on this grand millennial chic nursery—does the granny floral theme speak to you as much as it does to me?
XO,
Ashley
